ॐ अस्य श्रीचण्डीकवचस्यब्रह्मा ऋषिः अनुष्टुप् छन्दः

Oṃ asya śrīcaṇḍīkavacasyabrahmā ṛṣiḥ anuṣṭup chandaḥ

Om. Of this Shri Chandi Kavacham, Brahma is the rishi and Anushtup the metre,

चामुण्डा देवता अङ्गन्यासोक्तमातरोबीजम् दिग्बन्धदेवतास्तत्त्वम्

Cāmuṇḍā devatā aṅganyāsoktamātarobījam digbandhadevatāstattvam

Chamunda the presiding deity, the Mothers named in the anga-nyasa the seed, the deities of the directional binding the essence,

श्रीजगदम्बाप्रीत्यर्थे सप्तशतीपाठाङ्गत्वेनजपे विनियोगः

Śrījagadambāprītyarthe saptaśatīpāṭhāṅgatvenajape viniyogaḥ

and the application in recitation is as a limb of the Saptashati reading, for the pleasure of Shri Jagadamba.

ॐ नमश्चण्डिकायै

Oṃ namaścaṇḍikāyai

Om, salutation to Chandika.

verse 1

मार्कण्डेय उवाच

Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca

Markandeya said:

ॐ यद्गुह्यं परमं लोकेसर्वरक्षाकरं नृणाम्

Oṃ yadguhyaṃ paramaṃ lokesarvarakṣākaraṃ nṛṇām

Om. That which is the supreme secret in the world, which brings complete protection to people,

यन्न कस्यचिदाख्यातंतन्मे ब्रूहि पितामह

Yanna kasyacidākhyātaṃtanme brūhi pitāmaha

and which has never been told to anyone: tell me that, Grandfather.

verse 2

ब्रह्मोवाच

Brahmovāca

Brahma said:

अस्ति गुह्यतमं विप्र सर्वभूतोपकारकम्

Asti guhyatamaṃ vipra sarvabhūtopakārakam

There is a most secret thing, O brahmin, of benefit to every living being:

देव्यास्तु कवचं पुण्यं तच्छृणुष्व महामुने

Devyāstu kavacaṃ puṇyaṃ tacchṛṇuṣva mahāmune

the holy Kavacham of the Devi. Hear it, great sage.

verse 3

प्रथमं शैलपुत्री च द्वितीयं ब्रह्मचारिणी

Prathamaṃ śailaputrī ca dvitīyaṃ brahmacāriṇī

The first is Shailaputri, the second Brahmacharini,

तृतीयं चन्द्रघण्टेति कूष्माण्डेति चतुर्थकम्

Tṛtīyaṃ candraghaṇṭeti kūṣmāṇḍeti caturthakam

the third Chandraghanta, and the fourth Kushmanda,

verse 4

पञ्चमं स्कन्दमातेति षष्ठं कात्यायनीति च

Pañcamaṃ skandamāteti ṣaṣṭhaṃ kātyāyanīti ca

the fifth Skandamata, the sixth Katyayani,

सप्तमं कालरात्रीति महागौरीति चाष्टमम्

Saptamaṃ kālarātrīti mahāgaurīti cāṣṭamam

the seventh Kalaratri, and the eighth Mahagauri,

verse 5

नवमं सिद्धिदात्री च नवदुर्गाः प्रकीर्तिताः

Navamaṃ siddhidātrī ca navadurgāḥ prakīrtitāḥ

and the ninth Siddhidatri: these are proclaimed the nine Durgas.

उक्तान्येतानि नामानि ब्रह्मणैव महात्मना

Uktānyetāni nāmāni brahmaṇaiva mahātmanā

These names were spoken by great-souled Brahma himself.

verse 6

अग्निना दह्यमानस्तु शत्रुमध्ये गतो रणे

Agninā dahyamānastu śatrumadhye gato raṇe

One burning in fire, one caught among enemies in battle,

विषमे दुर्गमे चैव भयार्ताः शरणं गताः

Viṣame durgame caiva bhayārtāḥ śaraṇaṃ gatāḥ

those in rough and impassable places, stricken with fear, who have taken refuge:

verse 7

न तेषां जायते किञ्चिदशुभं रणसङ्कटे

Na teṣāṃ jāyate kiñcidaśubhaṃ raṇasaṅkaṭe

nothing inauspicious befalls them in the peril of battle.

नापदं तस्य पश्यामि शोकदुःखभयं न हि

Nāpadaṃ tasya paśyāmi śokaduḥkhabhayaṃ na hi

For such a one I see no calamity, and no grief, no sorrow, no fear.

verse 8

यैस्तु भक्त्या स्मृता नूनं तेषां वृद्धिः प्रजायते

Yaistu bhaktyā smṛtā nūnaṃ teṣāṃ vṛddhiḥ prajāyate

Those who have remembered You with devotion, they surely prosper.

ये त्वां स्मरन्ति देवेशि रक्षसे तान्न संशयः

Ye tvāṃ smaranti deveśi rakṣase tānna saṃśayaḥ

Those who remember You, Deveshi, You protect: of that there is no doubt.

verse 9

प्रेतसंस्था तु चामुण्डा वाराही महिषासना

Pretasaṃsthā tu cāmuṇḍā vārāhī mahiṣāsanā

Chamunda is seated on a corpse, Varahi is throned on a buffalo,

ऐन्द्री गजसमारुढा वैष्णवी गरुडासना

Aindrī gajasamāruḍhā vaiṣṇavī garuḍāsanā

Aindri rides an elephant, Vaishnavi is seated on Garuda,

verse 10

माहेश्वरी वृषारुढा कौमारी शिखिवाहना

Māheśvarī vṛṣāruḍhā kaumārī śikhivāhanā

Maheshwari rides the bull, Kaumari has the peacock for her mount,

लक्ष्मीः पद्मासना देवी पद्महस्ता हरिप्रिया

Lakṣmīḥ padmāsanā devī padmahastā haripriyā

Lakshmi the Devi sits on the lotus, lotus in hand, beloved of Hari,

verse 11

श्वेतरूपधरा देवी ईश्वरी वृषवाहना

Śvetarūpadharā devī īśvarī vṛṣavāhanā

Ishwari the Devi wears a white form and rides the bull,

ब्राह्मी हंससमारुढा सर्वाभरणभूषिता

Brāhmī haṃsasamāruḍhā sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā

Brahmi rides the swan, adorned with every ornament.

verse 12

इत्येता मातरः सर्वाः सर्वयोगसमन्विताः

Ityetā mātaraḥ sarvāḥ sarvayogasamanvitāḥ

All these Mothers are possessed of every yogic power,

नानाभरणशोभाढ्या नानारत्नोपशोभिताः

Nānābharaṇaśobhāḍhyā nānāratnopaśobhitāḥ

rich in the beauty of many ornaments, resplendent with many jewels.

verse 13

दृश्यन्ते रथमारुढा देव्यः क्रोधसमाकुलाः

Dṛśyante rathamāruḍhā devyaḥ krodhasamākulāḥ

These goddesses are seen mounted on chariots, filled with wrath,

शङ्खं चक्रं गदां शक्तिं हलं च मुसलायुधम्

Śaṅkhaṃ cakraṃ gadāṃ śaktiṃ halaṃ ca musalāyudham

conch, discus, mace, spear, plough and pestle as weapons,

verse 14

खेटकं तोमरं चैव परशुं पाशमेव च

Kheṭakaṃ tomaraṃ caiva paraśuṃ pāśameva ca

shield and lance too, axe and noose as well,

कुन्तायुधं त्रिशूलं च शार्ङ्गमायुधमुत्तमम्

Kuntāyudhaṃ triśūlaṃ ca śārṅgamāyudhamuttamam

the kunta spear, the trident, and the excellent Sharnga bow.

verse 15

दैत्यानां देहनाशाय भक्तानामभयाय च

Daityānāṃ dehanāśāya bhaktānāmabhayāya ca

For the destroying of the daityas' bodies, for the fearlessness of devotees,

धारयन्त्यायुधानीत्थं देवानां च हिताय वै

Dhārayantyāyudhānītthaṃ devānāṃ ca hitāya vai

and for the good of the gods, they bear these weapons thus.

verse 16

नमस्तेऽस्तु महारौद्रे महाघोरपराक्रमे

Namaste'stu mahāraudre mahāghoraparākrame

Salutation to You, greatly fierce, terrible in Your valour,

महाबले महोत्साहे महाभयविनाशिनि

Mahābale mahotsāhe mahābhayavināśini

great in strength, great in resolve, destroyer of the greatest fear.

verse 17

त्राहि मां देवि दुष्प्रेक्ष्ये शत्रूणां भयवर्धिनि

Trāhi māṃ devi duṣprekṣye śatrūṇāṃ bhayavardhini

Save me, O Devi, hard even to look upon, who swell the fear of enemies.

प्राच्यां रक्षतु मामैन्द्री आग्नेय्यामग्निदेवता

Prācyāṃ rakṣatu māmaindrī āgneyyāmagnidevatā

In the east may Aindri guard me, in the south-east the deity of fire,

verse 18

दक्षिणेऽवतु वाराही नैर्ऋत्यां खड्गधारिणी

Dakṣiṇe'vatu vārāhī nairṛtyāṃ khaḍgadhāriṇī

in the south may Varahi protect, in the south-west she who bears the sword,

प्रतीच्यां वारुणी रक्षेद् वायव्यां मृगवाहिनी

Pratīcyāṃ vāruṇī rakṣed vāyavyāṃ mṛgavāhinī

in the west may Varuni guard, in the north-west she who rides the deer,

verse 19

उदीच्यां पातु कौमारी ऐशान्यां शूलधारिणी

Udīcyāṃ pātu kaumārī aiśānyāṃ śūladhāriṇī

in the north may Kaumari keep me, in the north-east she who bears the trident,

ऊर्ध्वं ब्रह्माणि मे रक्षेदधस्ताद् वैष्णवी तथा

Ūrdhvaṃ brahmāṇi me rakṣedadhastād vaiṣṇavī tathā

above may Brahmani guard me, and below Vaishnavi likewise.

verse 20

एवं दश दिशो रक्षेच्चामुण्डा शववाहना

Evaṃ daśa diśo rakṣeccāmuṇḍā śavavāhanā

So may Chamunda, borne on a corpse, guard all ten directions.

जया मे चाग्रतः पातु विजया पातु पृष्ठतः

Jayā me cāgrataḥ pātu vijayā pātu pṛṣṭhataḥ

May Jaya guard me in front, and Vijaya guard me behind,

verse 21

अजिता वामपार्श्वे तु दक्षिणे चापराजिता

Ajitā vāmapārśve tu dakṣiṇe cāparājitā

Ajita on the left side, and Aparajita on the right,

शिखामुद्योतिनि रक्षेदुमा मूर्ध्नि व्यवस्थिता

Śikhāmudyotini rakṣedumā mūrdhni vyavasthitā

may Udyotini guard the crown-tuft, and Uma, seated on the head, the head itself,

verse 22

मालाधरी ललाटे च भ्रुवौ रक्षेद् यशस्विनी

Mālādharī lalāṭe ca bhruvau rakṣed yaśasvinī

Maladhari the forehead, and may Yashasvini guard the brows,

त्रिनेत्रा च भ्रुवोर्मध्ये यमघण्टा च नासिके

Trinetrā ca bhruvormadhye yamaghaṇṭā ca nāsike

Trinetra the space between the brows, and Yamaghanta the nostrils,

verse 23

शङ्खिनी चक्षुषोर्मध्ये श्रोत्रयोर्द्वारवासिनी

Śaṅkhinī cakṣuṣormadhye śrotrayordvāravāsinī

Shankhini the space between the eyes, Dvaravasini the ears,

कपोलौ कालिका रक्षेत्कर्णमूले तु शाङ्करी

Kapolau kālikā rakṣetkarṇamūle tu śāṅkarī

may Kalika guard the cheeks, and Shankari the base of the ears,

verse 24

नासिकायां सुगन्धा च उत्तरोष्ठे च चर्चिका

Nāsikāyāṃ sugandhā ca uttaroṣṭhe ca carcikā

Sugandha the nose, and Charchika the upper lip,

अधरे चामृतकला जिह्वायां च सरस्वती

Adhare cāmṛtakalā jihvāyāṃ ca sarasvatī

Amritakala the lower lip, and Saraswati the tongue,

verse 25

दन्तान् रक्षतु कौमारी कण्ठदेशे तु चण्डिका

Dantān rakṣatu kaumārī kaṇṭhadeśe tu caṇḍikā

may Kaumari guard the teeth, and Chandika the region of the throat,

घण्टिकां चित्रघण्टा च महामाया च तालुके

Ghaṇṭikāṃ citraghaṇṭā ca mahāmāyā ca tāluke

Chitraghanta the uvula, and Mahamaya the palate,

verse 26

कामाक्षी चिबुकं रक्षेद् वाचं मे सर्वमङ्गला

Kāmākṣī cibukaṃ rakṣed vācaṃ me sarvamaṅgalā

may Kamakshi guard the chin, and Sarvamangala my speech,

ग्रीवायां भद्रकाली च पृष्ठवंशे धनुर्धरी

Grīvāyāṃ bhadrakālī ca pṛṣṭhavaṃśe dhanurdharī

Bhadrakali the neck, and Dhanurdhari the spine,

verse 27

नीलग्रीवा बहिःकण्ठे नलिकां नलकूबरी

Nīlagrīvā bahiḥkaṇṭhe nalikāṃ nalakūbarī

Nilagriva the outside of the throat, Nalakubari the windpipe,

स्कन्धयोः खङ्गिनी रक्षेद् बाहू मे वज्रधारिणी

Skandhayoḥ khaṅginī rakṣed bāhū me vajradhāriṇī

may Khangini guard the shoulders, and Vajradharini my arms,

verse 28

हस्तयोर्दण्डिनी रक्षेदम्बिका चाङ्गुलीषु च

Hastayordaṇḍinī rakṣedambikā cāṅgulīṣu ca

may Dandini guard the hands, and Ambika the fingers,

नखाञ्छूलेश्वरी रक्षेत्कुक्षौ रक्षेत्कुलेश्वरी

Nakhāñchūleśvarī rakṣetkukṣau rakṣetkuleśvarī

may Shuleshwari guard the nails, and Kuleshwari the belly,

verse 29

स्तनौ रक्षेन्महादेवी मनः शोकविनाशिनी

Stanau rakṣenmahādevī manaḥ śokavināśinī

may Mahadevi guard the breast, and Shokavinashini the mind,

हृदये ललिता देवी उदरे शूलधारिणी

Hṛdaye lalitā devī udare śūladhāriṇī

Lalita Devi the heart, and Shuladharini the stomach,

verse 30

नाभौ च कामिनी रक्षेद् गुह्यं गुह्येश्वरी तथा

Nābhau ca kāminī rakṣed guhyaṃ guhyeśvarī tathā

may Kamini guard the navel, and Guhyeshwari the private parts,

पूतना कामिका मेढ्रं गुदे महिषवाहिनी

Pūtanā kāmikā meḍhraṃ gude mahiṣavāhinī

Putana Kamika the generative organ, and Mahishavahini the rectum,

verse 31

कट्यां भगवती रक्षेज्जानुनी विन्ध्यवासिनी

Kaṭyāṃ bhagavatī rakṣejjānunī vindhyavāsinī

may Bhagavati guard the hips, and Vindhyavasini the knees,

जङ्घे महाबला रक्षेत्सर्वकामप्रदायिनी

Jaṅghe mahābalā rakṣetsarvakāmapradāyinī

may Mahabala, giver of every wish, guard the shanks,

verse 32

गुल्फयोर्नारसिंही च पादपृष्ठे तु तैजसी

Gulphayornārasiṃhī ca pādapṛṣṭhe tu taijasī

Narasimhi the ankles, and Taijasi the upper surface of the feet,

पादाङ्गुलीषु श्री रक्षेत्पादाधस्तलवासिनी

Pādāṅgulīṣu śrī rakṣetpādādhastalavāsinī

may Shri guard the toes, and Talavasini the soles beneath the feet,

verse 33

नखान् दंष्ट्राकराली च केशांश्चैवोर्ध्वकेशिनी

Nakhān daṃṣṭrākarālī ca keśāṃścaivordhvakeśinī

Damshtrakarali the nails, and Urdhvakeshini the hair,

रोमकूपेषु कौबेरी त्वचं वागीश्वरी तथा

Romakūpeṣu kauberī tvacaṃ vāgīśvarī tathā

Kauberi the pores of the skin, and Vagishwari the skin itself,

verse 34

रक्तमज्जावसामांसान्यस्थिमेदांसि पार्वती

Raktamajjāvasāmāṃsānyasthimedāṃsi pārvatī

may Parvati guard blood, marrow, fat, flesh, bone and tissue,

अन्त्राणि कालरात्रिश्च पित्तं च मुकुटेश्वरी

Antrāṇi kālarātriśca pittaṃ ca mukuṭeśvarī

Kalaratri the intestines, and Mukuteshwari the bile,

verse 35

पद्मावती पद्मकोशे कफे चूडामणिस्तथा

Padmāvatī padmakośe kaphe cūḍāmaṇistathā

Padmavati the lotus-chambers, and Chudamani likewise the phlegm,

ज्वालामुखी नखज्वालामभेद्या सर्वसन्धिषु

Jvālāmukhī nakhajvālāmabhedyā sarvasandhiṣu

Jvalamukhi the lustre of the nails, and Abhedya every joint,

verse 36

शुक्रं ब्रह्माणि मे रक्षेच्छायां छत्रेश्वरी तथा

Śukraṃ brahmāṇi me rakṣecchāyāṃ chatreśvarī tathā

may Brahmani guard my seed, and Chhatreshwari likewise my shadow,

अहङ्कारं मनो बुद्धिं रक्षेन्मे धर्मधारिणी

Ahaṅkāraṃ mano buddhiṃ rakṣenme dharmadhāriṇī

may Dharmadharini guard my sense of self, my mind and my intellect,

verse 37

प्राणापानौ तथा व्यानमुदानं च समानकम्

Prāṇāpānau tathā vyānamudānaṃ ca samānakam

Prana and Apana, and Vyana, Udana and Samana too:

वज्रहस्ता च मे रक्षेत्प्राणं कल्याणशोभना

Vajrahastā ca me rakṣetprāṇaṃ kalyāṇaśobhanā

may Vajrahasta, radiant with blessing, guard my very breath.

verse 38

रसे रूपे च गन्धे च शब्दे स्पर्शे च योगिनी

Rase rūpe ca gandhe ca śabde sparśe ca yoginī

In taste and in form, in smell, in sound and in touch, may Yogini guard me,

सत्त्वं रजस्तमश्चैव रक्षेन्नारायणी सदा

Sattvaṃ rajastamaścaiva rakṣennārāyaṇī sadā

and may Narayani always guard sattva, rajas and tamas alike.

verse 39

आयू रक्षतु वाराही धर्मं रक्षतु वैष्णवी

Āyū rakṣatu vārāhī dharmaṃ rakṣatu vaiṣṇavī

May Varahi guard my span of life, and Vaishnavi guard my dharma,

यशः कीर्तिं च लक्ष्मीं च धनं विद्यां च चक्रिणी

Yaśaḥ kīrtiṃ ca lakṣmīṃ ca dhanaṃ vidyāṃ ca cakriṇī

and may Chakrini guard my repute, my fame, my fortune, my wealth and my learning.

verse 40

गोत्रमिन्द्राणि मे रक्षेत्पशून्मे रक्ष चण्डिके

Gotramindrāṇi me rakṣetpaśūnme rakṣa caṇḍike

May Indrani guard my lineage; guard my cattle, Chandika,

पुत्रान् रक्षेन्महालक्ष्मीर्भार्यां रक्षतु भैरवी

Putrān rakṣenmahālakṣmīrbhāryāṃ rakṣatu bhairavī

may Mahalakshmi guard my sons, and Bhairavi guard my wife.

verse 41

पन्थानं सुपथा रक्षेन्मार्गं क्षेमकरी तथा

Panthānaṃ supathā rakṣenmārgaṃ kṣemakarī tathā

May Supatha guard my journey, and Kshemakari likewise my road,

राजद्वारे महालक्ष्मीर्विजया सर्वतः स्थिता

Rājadvāre mahālakṣmīrvijayā sarvataḥ sthitā

at the king's gate Mahalakshmi, and Vijaya stationed on every side.

verse 42

रक्षाहीनं तु यत्स्थानं वर्जितं कवचेन तु

Rakṣāhīnaṃ tu yatsthānaṃ varjitaṃ kavacena tu

Whatever place is left unguarded, whatever the Kavacham has passed over,

तत्सर्वं रक्ष मे देवि जयन्ती पापनाशिनी

Tatsarvaṃ rakṣa me devi jayantī pāpanāśinī

guard all of that for me, O Devi, Jayanti, destroyer of sin.

verse 43

पदमेकं न गच्छेत्तु यदीच्छेच्छुभमात्मनः

Padamekaṃ na gacchettu yadīcchecchubhamātmanaḥ

One who wishes his own good should not go a single step

कवचेनावृतो नित्यं यत्र यत्रैव गच्छति

Kavacenāvṛto nityaṃ yatra yatraiva gacchati

without the Kavacham about him: wherever he then goes,

verse 44

तत्र तत्रार्थलाभश्च विजयः सार्वकामिकः

Tatra tatrārthalābhaśca vijayaḥ sārvakāmikaḥ

there he gains what he seeks and a victory that answers every wish.

यं यं चिन्तयते कामं तं तं प्राप्नोति निश्चितम्

Yaṃ yaṃ cintayate kāmaṃ taṃ taṃ prāpnoti niścitam

Whatever wish he holds in mind, that he certainly obtains.

परमैश्वर्यमतुलं प्राप्स्यते भूतले पुमान्

Paramaiśvaryamatulaṃ prāpsyate bhūtale pumān

Such a man will win unequalled sovereignty upon the earth.

verse 45

निर्भयो जायते मर्त्यः सङ्ग्रामेष्वपराजितः

Nirbhayo jāyate martyaḥ saṅgrāmeṣvaparājitaḥ

The mortal becomes fearless, unbeaten in battle,

त्रैलोक्ये तु भवेत्पूज्यः कवचेनावृतः पुमान्

Trailokye tu bhavetpūjyaḥ kavacenāvṛtaḥ pumān

and the man wrapped in the Kavacham becomes worthy of worship in all three worlds.

verse 46

इदं तु देव्याः कवचं देवानामपि दुर्लभम्

Idaṃ tu devyāḥ kavacaṃ devānāmapi durlabham

This Kavacham of the Devi is hard to come by even for the gods.

यः पठेत्प्रयतो नित्यं त्रिसन्ध्यं श्रद्धयान्वितः

Yaḥ paṭhetprayato nityaṃ trisandhyaṃ śraddhayānvitaḥ

Whoever, self-controlled, recites it daily at the three junctures of the day with faith,

verse 47

दैवी कला भवेत्तस्य त्रैलोक्येष्वपराजितः

Daivī kalā bhavettasya trailokyeṣvaparājitaḥ

in him a divine power arises, and he is unbeaten in all three worlds.

जीवेद् वर्षशतं साग्रमपमृत्युविवर्जितः

Jīved varṣaśataṃ sāgramapamṛtyuvivarjitaḥ

He lives a full hundred years and more, spared from untimely death.

verse 48

नश्यन्ति व्याधयः सर्वे लूताविस्फोटकादयः

Naśyanti vyādhayaḥ sarve lūtāvisphoṭakādayaḥ

All diseases perish, boils and eruptions and the rest,

स्थावरं जङ्गमं चैव कृत्रिमं चापि यद्विषम्

Sthāvaraṃ jaṅgamaṃ caiva kṛtrimaṃ cāpi yadviṣam

and whatever poison there is, fixed, moving or artificially made,

verse 49

अभिचाराणि सर्वाणि मन्त्रयन्त्राणि भूतले

Abhicārāṇi sarvāṇi mantrayantrāṇi bhūtale

all the hostile rites, the mantras and yantras used on earth,

भूचराः खेचराश्चैव जलजाश्चोपदेशिकाः

Bhūcarāḥ khecarāścaiva jalajāścopadeśikāḥ

those that move on earth, those that move in the sky, those born of water, and those sent by instruction,

verse 50

सहजा कुलजा माला डाकिनी शाकिनी तथा

Sahajā kulajā mālā ḍākinī śākinī tathā

the inborn, the clan-born, the mala, the dakini and the shakini too,

अन्तरिक्षचरा घोरा डाकिन्यश्च महाबलाः

Antarikṣacarā ghorā ḍākinyaśca mahābalāḥ

and the fearsome dakinis of great strength that move in the middle air,

verse 51

ग्रहभूतपिशाचाश्च यक्षगन्धर्वराक्षसाः

Grahabhūtapiśācāśca yakṣagandharvarākṣasāḥ

the grahas, bhutas and pishachas, the yakshas, gandharvas and rakshasas,

ब्रह्मराक्षसवेतालाः कूष्माण्डा भैरवादयः

Brahmarākṣasavetālāḥ kūṣmāṇḍā bhairavādayaḥ

the brahmarakshasas and vetalas, the kushmandas, the bhairavas and their kind:

verse 52

नश्यन्ति दर्शनात्तस्य कवचे हृदि संस्थिते

Naśyanti darśanāttasya kavace hṛdi saṃsthite

all these perish at the mere sight of one who holds the Kavacham in his heart.

मानोन्नतिर्भवेद् राज्ञस्तेजोवृद्धिकरं परम्

Mānonnatirbhaved rājñastejovṛddhikaraṃ param

It raises a king's standing, and is the highest means of increasing his lustre.

verse 53

यशसा वर्धते सोऽपि कीर्तिमण्डितभूतले

Yaśasā vardhate so'pi kīrtimaṇḍitabhūtale

He too grows in renown, on an earth made bright by his fame.

जपेत्सप्तशतीं चण्डीं कृत्वा तु कवचं पुरा

Japetsaptaśatīṃ caṇḍīṃ kṛtvā tu kavacaṃ purā

Having first performed the Kavacham, let him then recite the Chandi Saptashati.

verse 54

यावद्भूमण्डलं धत्ते सशैलवनकाननम्

Yāvadbhūmaṇḍalaṃ dhatte saśailavanakānanam

As long as the round of the earth endures with its mountains, woods and forests,

तावत्तिष्ठति मेदिन्यां संततिः पुत्रपौत्रिकी

Tāvattiṣṭhati medinyāṃ saṃtatiḥ putrapautrikī

so long does his line of sons and grandsons stand upon the earth.

verse 55

देहान्ते परमं स्थानं यत्सुरैरपि दुर्लभम्

Dehānte paramaṃ sthānaṃ yatsurairapi durlabham

At the body's end he reaches the supreme abode, hard to attain even for the gods:

प्राप्नोति पुरुषो नित्यं महामायाप्रसादतः

Prāpnoti puruṣo nityaṃ mahāmāyāprasādataḥ

this the person attains for ever, by the grace of Mahamaya.

verse 56

लभते परमं रूपं शिवेन सह मोदते ॐ

Labhate paramaṃ rūpaṃ śivena saha modate oṃ

He gains the supreme form and rejoices in Shiva's company. Om.
