surya

जपाकुसुमसंकाशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम्

Japākusuma-saṃkāśaṃ kāśyapeyaṃ mahādyutim

Glowing like the hibiscus flower, son of Kashyapa, of vast radiance,

तमोऽरिं सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोऽस्मि दिवाकरम्

Tamo'riṃ sarva-pāpa-ghnaṃ praṇato'smi divākaram

the foe of darkness, destroyer of every sin: I bow to Divakara, the maker of day.

chandra

दधिशंखतुषाराभं क्षीरोदार्णवसंभवम्

Dadhiśaṅkha-tuṣārābhaṃ kṣīrodārṇava-saṃbhavam

White as curd, conch and snow, born from the ocean of milk,

नमामि शशिनं सोमं शंभोर्मुकुटभूषणम्

Namāmi śaśinaṃ somaṃ śaṃbhor mukuṭa-bhūṣaṇam

I bow to the moon, to Soma, the crest-ornament of Shambhu.

mangal

धरणीगर्भसंभूतं विद्युत्कान्तिसमप्रभम्

Dharaṇīgarbha-saṃbhūtaṃ vidyutkānti-samaprabham

Born from the womb of the earth, shining with a radiance like lightning,

कुमारं शक्तिहस्तं तं मंगलं प्रणमाम्यहम्

Kumāraṃ śaktihastaṃ taṃ maṅgalaṃ praṇamāmy aham

that youthful one bearing the spear in his hand: to Mangala I bow.

budha

प्रियंगुकलिकाश्यामं रूपेणाप्रतिमं बुधम्

Priyaṅgu-kalikāśyāmaṃ rūpeṇāpratimaṃ budham

Dark as the priyangu bud, unequalled in beauty, Budha,

सौम्यं सौम्यगुणोपेतं तं बुधं प्रणमाम्यहम्

Saumyaṃ saumya-guṇopetaṃ taṃ budhaṃ praṇamāmy aham

gentle and endowed with gentle qualities: to that Budha I bow.

guru

देवानां च ऋषीणां च गुरुं काञ्चनसंनिभम्

Devānāṃ ca ṛṣīṇāṃ ca guruṃ kāñcana-saṃnibham

The preceptor of the gods and of the sages, resembling gold,

बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम्

Buddhi-bhūtaṃ trilokeśaṃ taṃ namāmi bṛhaspatim

wisdom itself embodied, lord of the three worlds: to that Brihaspati I bow.

shukra

हिमकुंदमृणालाभं दैत्यानां परमं गुरुम्

Himakunda-mṛṇālābhaṃ daityānāṃ paramaṃ gurum

Radiant as snow, the kunda flower and the lotus stalk, the supreme preceptor of the daityas,

सर्वशास्त्रप्रवक्तारं भार्गवं प्रणमाम्यहम्

Sarvaśāstra-pravaktāraṃ bhārgavaṃ praṇamāmy aham

the expounder of all the scriptures: to Bhargava I bow.

shani

नीलांजनसमाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम्

Nīlāñjana-samābhāsaṃ raviputraṃ yamāgrajam

Dark as blue collyrium, son of Ravi, elder brother of Yama,

छायामार्तंडसंभूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम्

Chāyā-mārtaṇḍa-saṃbhūtaṃ taṃ namāmi śanaiścaram

born of Chhaya and Martanda: to that Shanaishchara I bow.

rahu

अर्धकायं महावीर्यं चंद्रादित्यविमर्दनम्

Ardhakāyaṃ mahāvīryaṃ candrāditya-vimardanam

Half-bodied, of great might, the oppressor of the moon and the sun,

सिंहिकागर्भसंभूतं तं राहुं प्रणमाम्यहम्

Siṃhikā-garbha-saṃbhūtaṃ taṃ rāhuṃ praṇamāmy aham

born from the womb of Simhika: to that Rahu I bow.

ketu

पलाशपुष्पसंकाशं तारकाग्रहमस्तकम्

Palāśa-puṣpa-saṃkāśaṃ tārakā-graha-mastakam

Glowing like the palasha flower, foremost among the stars and planets,

रौद्रं रौद्रात्मकं घोरं तं केतुं प्रणमाम्यहम्

Raudraṃ raudrātmakaṃ ghoraṃ taṃ ketuṃ praṇamāmy aham

fierce, fierce in nature, terrible: to that Ketu I bow.

Iti śrīvyāsaviracitaṃ navagrahastotraṃ sampūrṇam
