अस्य श्रीशनैश्चरस्तोत्रस्य दशरथ ऋषिः शनैश्चरो देवता त्रिष्टुप् छन्दः
Asya Śrī-Śanaiścara-stotrasya Daśaratha ṛṣiḥ Śanaiścaro devatā Triṣṭup chandaḥ
Of this Shri Shanaishchara Stotram, the seer is Dasharatha, the deity is Shanaishchara, the metre is Trishtup.
शनैश्चरप्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः
Śanaiścara-prītyarthe jape viniyogaḥ
Its application in recitation is for the pleasure of Shanaishchara.
verse 1
कोणोऽन्तको रौद्रयमोऽथ बभ्रुः कृष्णः शनिः पिंगलमन्दसौरिः
Koṇo'ntako raudra-yamo'tha babhruḥ kṛṣṇaḥ śaniḥ piṅgala-manda-sauriḥ
Kona, Antaka, Raudra, Yama, and Babhru, Krishna, Shani, Pingala, Manda, Sauri:
नित्यं स्मृतो यो हरते च पीडां तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Nityaṃ smṛto yo harate ca pīḍāṃ tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya
he who, remembered daily, takes away affliction: to him, the glorious son of Ravi, salutations.
verse 2
सुरासुराः किम्पुरुषोरगेन्द्रा गन्धर्वविद्याधरपन्नगाश्च
Surāsurāḥ kiṃpuruṣoraga-indrā gandharva-vidyādhara-pannagāś ca
Gods and demons, kimpurushas, lords of serpents, gandharvas, vidyadharas and pannagas,
पीड्यन्ति सर्वे विषमस्थितेन तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Pīḍyanti sarve viṣama-sthitena tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya
all are afflicted when he stands in an adverse position: to him, the glorious son of Ravi, salutations.

नरा नरेन्द्राः पशवो मृगेन्द्रा वन्याश्च ये कीटपतंगभृंगाः
Narā narendrāḥ paśavo mṛgendrā vanyāś ca ye kīṭa-pataṅga-bhṛṅgāḥ
Men and kings, beasts and lions, and the creatures of the forest, insects, moths and bees,
पीड्यन्ति सर्वे विषमस्थितेन तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Pīḍyanti sarve viṣama-sthitena tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya

देशाश्च दुर्गाणि वनानि यत्र सेनानिवेशाः पुरपत्तनानि
Deśāś ca durgāṇi vanāni yatra senā-niveśāḥ pura-pattanāni
Countries and forts and forests, and wherever there are army encampments, cities and towns,
पीड्यन्ति सर्वे विषमस्थितेन तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Pīḍyanti sarve viṣama-sthitena tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya

तिलैर्यवैर्माषगुडान्नदानैर्लोहेन नीलाम्बरदानतो वा
Tilair yavair māṣa-guḍānna-dānair lohena nīlāmbara-dānato vā
By gifts of sesame, barley, black gram, jaggery and cooked food, by iron, or by the gift of dark blue cloth,
प्रीणाति मन्त्रैर्निजवासरे च तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Prīṇāti mantrair nija-vāsare ca tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya
and by mantras on his own weekday, he is pleased: to him, the glorious son of Ravi, salutations.
verse 6
प्रयागकूले यमुनातटे च सरस्वतीपुण्यजले गुहायाम्
Prayāga-kūle yamunā-taṭe ca sarasvatī-puṇya-jale guhāyām
On the bank at Prayaga, on the shore of the Yamuna, in the holy waters of the Sarasvati, in a mountain cave,
यो योगिनां ध्यानगतोऽपि सूक्ष्मस्तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Yo yogināṃ dhyāna-gato'pi sūkṣmas tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya
he who remains subtle even when reached in the meditation of yogis: to him, the glorious son of Ravi, salutations.
verse 7
अन्यप्रदेशात्स्वगृहं प्रविष्टस्तदीयवारे स नरः सुखी स्यात्
Anya-pradeśāt sva-gṛhaṃ praviṣṭas tadīya-vāre sa naraḥ sukhī syāt
The man who returns to his own house from another region on that day will be happy;
गृहाद्गतो यो न पुनः प्रयाति तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Gṛhād gato yo na punaḥ prayāti tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya
but he who sets out from home does not come back again: to him, the glorious son of Ravi, salutations.
verse 8
स्रष्टा स्वयंभूर्भुवनत्रयस्य त्राता हरीशो हरते पिनाकी
Sraṣṭā svayaṃbhūr bhuvana-trayasya trātā harīśo harate pināki
The self-born is the creator of the three worlds, Harisha is their protector, and Pinaki takes them away;
एकस्त्रिधा ऋग्यजुःसाममूर्तिस्तस्मै नमः श्रीरविनन्दनाय
Ekas tridhā ṛg-yajuḥ-sāma-mūrtiḥ tasmai namaḥ śrī-ravi-nandanāya
the One who is threefold, whose forms are the Rig, Yajur and Sama: to him, the glorious son of Ravi, salutations.

शन्यष्टकं यः प्रयतः प्रभाते नित्यं सुपुत्रैः पशुबान्धवैश्च
Śany-aṣṭakaṃ yaḥ prayataḥ prabhāte nityaṃ suputraiḥ paśu-bāndhavaiś ca
Whoever, self-restrained, recites this Shani Ashtaka daily at dawn, together with good children, cattle and kinsfolk,
पठेत्तु सौख्यं भुवि भोगयुक्तः प्राप्नोति निर्वाणपदं तदन्ते
Paṭhet tu saukhyaṃ bhuvi bhoga-yuktaḥ prāpnoti nirvāṇa-padaṃ tadante
enjoys happiness on earth, blessed with good things, and at the end attains the state of liberation.

Koṇasthaḥ piṅgalo babhruḥ kṛṣṇo raudro'ntako yamaḥ
Konastha, Pingala, Babhru, Krishna, Raudra, Antaka, Yama,
सौरिः शनैश्चरो मन्दः पिप्पलादेन संस्तुतः
Sauriḥ śanaiścaro mandaḥ pippalādena saṃstutaḥ
Sauri, Shanaishchara, Manda: thus was he praised by Pippalada.

Etāni daśa nāmāni prātar utthāya yaḥ paṭhet
Whoever rises at dawn and recites these ten names,
शनैश्चरकृता पीडा न कदाचिद्भविष्यति
Śanaiścara-kṛtā pīḍā na kadācid bhaviṣyati
affliction caused by Shanaishchara will never befall him.
