verse 1
नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय।
Nāgendra-hārāya tri-locanāya bhasmāṅga-rāgāya Maheśvarāya
To Him who wears the king of serpents as His garland; who has three eyes; whose body is smeared with sacred ash; to Maheshwara
नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय तस्मै न काराय नमः शिवाय॥1॥
Nityāya śuddhāya digambarāya tasmai na-kārāya namaḥ śivāya
To the eternal One; the ever-pure; the sky-clad; to that syllable Na I offer salutations to Shiva
verse 2
मन्दाकिनीसलिलचन्दनचर्चिताय नन्दीश्वरप्रमथनाथमहेश्वराय।
Mandākinī-salila-candana-carcitāya Nandīśvara-pramatha-nātha-Maheśvarāya
To Him anointed with the water of the Mandakini and with sandal paste; to the Lord of Nandi and of the pramatha hosts; to Maheshwara
मन्दारपुष्पबहुपुष्पसुपूजिताय तस्मै म काराय नमः शिवाय॥2॥
Mandāra-puṣpa-bahu-puṣpa-supūjitāya tasmai ma-kārāya namaḥ śivāya
To Him well worshipped with mandara blossoms and with many other flowers; to that syllable Ma I offer salutations to Shiva
verse 3
शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय।
Śivāya Gaurī-vadana-abja-vṛnda-sūryāya Dakṣādhvara-nāśakāya
To Shiva; who is the sun to the lotus that is Gauri's face; who destroyed Daksha's sacrifice
श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय तस्मै शि काराय नमः शिवाय्॥3॥
Śrī-Nīlakaṇṭhāya vṛṣa-dhvajāya tasmai śi-kārāya namaḥ śivāya
To the blessed blue-throated One; who bears the bull upon His banner; to that syllable Shi I offer salutations to Shiva
verse 4
वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय।
Vasiṣṭha-kumbhodbhava-Gautamārya-munīndra-devārcita-śekharāya
To Him whose crown is worshipped by Vasishtha by Agastya by Gautama and by the foremost of sages and gods
चन्द्रार्कवैश्वानरलोचनाय तस्मै व काराय नमः शिवाय॥4॥
Candrārka-vaiśvānara-locanāya tasmai va-kārāya namaḥ śivāya
To Him whose three eyes are the moon the sun and fire; to that syllable Va I offer salutations to Shiva
verse 5
यक्षस्वरूपाय जटाधराय पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय।
Yakṣa-svarūpāya jaṭā-dharāya Pināka-hastāya sanātanāya
To Him in the form of a yaksha; who bears matted locks; who holds the Pinaka bow; the eternal One
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय तस्मै य काराय नमः शिवाय॥5॥
Divyāya devāya digambarāya tasmai ya-kārāya namaḥ śivāya
To the resplendent One; to the God; to the sky-clad; to that syllable Ya I offer salutations to Shiva

पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ।
Pañcākṣaram idaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhec chiva-sannidhau
Whoever recites this holy five-syllable hymn in the presence of Shiva
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते॥6॥
Śivalokam avāpnoti śivena saha modate
attains the realm of Shiva and rejoices there in His company
