अस्य श्रीरामरक्षास्तोत्रमन्त्रस्य। बुधकौशिक ऋषिः। श्रीसीतारामचन्द्रो देवता। अनुष्टुप् छन्दः। सीता शक्तिः।

Asya Śrī-Rāma-rakṣā-stotra-mantrasya. Budhakauśika ṛṣiḥ. Śrī-Sītā-Rāma-candro devatā. Anuṣṭup chandaḥ. Sītā śaktiḥ

Of this Shri Rama Raksha Stotra mantra: the seer is Budhakaushika, the deity is Shri Sita-Ramachandra, the metre is Anushtup, Sita is the power.

श्रीमद्हनुमान् कीलकम्। श्रीसीतारामचन्द्रप्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः॥

Śrīmad-Hanumān kīlakam. Śrī-Sītā-Rāma-candra-prītyarthe jape viniyogaḥ

The venerable Hanuman is the kilaka. Its application in recitation is for the pleasure of Shri Sita and Ramachandra.

ध्यायेदाजानुबाहुं धृतशरधनुषं बद्धपद्मासनस्थं पीतं वासो वसानं नवकमलदलस्पर्धिनेत्रं प्रसन्नम्।

Dhyāyed-ājānu-bāhuṃ dhṛta-śara-dhanuṣaṃ baddha-padmāsana-sthaṃ pītaṃ vāso vasānaṃ nava-kamala-dala-spardhi-netraṃ prasannam

Let one meditate on him whose arms reach to his knees, who holds bow and arrow, seated in the bound lotus posture, wearing yellow raiment, whose eyes rival fresh lotus petals, serene of face,

वामाङ्कारूढ-सीता-मुखकमल-मिलल्लोचनं नीरदाभं नानालङ्कारदीप्तं दधतमुरुजटामण्डनं रामचन्द्रम्॥

Vāmāṅkārūḍha-Sītā-mukha-kamala-milal-locanaṃ nīradābhaṃ nānālaṅkāra-dīptaṃ dadhatam-uru-jaṭā-maṇḍanaṃ Rāmacandram

whose gaze meets the lotus face of Sita seated on his left, dark as a rain cloud, radiant with many ornaments, wearing a great crown of matted locks: Ramachandra.

verse 1

चरितं रघुनाथस्य शतकोटिप्रविस्तरम्।

Caritaṃ Raghunāthasya śata-koṭi-pravistaram

The story of Raghunatha extends over a hundred crore verses;

एकैकमक्षरं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम्॥1॥

Ekaikam-akṣaraṃ puṃsāṃ mahā-pātaka-nāśanam

each single syllable of it destroys the gravest sins of men.

verse 2

ध्यात्वा नीलोत्पलश्यामं रामं राजीवलोचनम्।

Dhyātvā nīlotpala-śyāmaṃ Rāmaṃ rājīva-locanam

Having meditated on Rama, dark as a blue lotus, with eyes like lotus petals,

जानकीलक्ष्मणोपेतं जटामुकुटमण्डितम्॥2॥

Jānakī-Lakṣmaṇo-petaṃ jaṭā-mukuṭa-maṇḍitam

accompanied by Janaki and Lakshmana, adorned with a crown of matted hair,

verse 3

सासितूणधनुर्बाणपाणिं नक्तं चरान्तकम्।

Sāsi-tūṇa-dhanur-bāṇa-pāṇiṃ naktaṃ carāntakam

holding sword, quiver, bow and arrow in his hands, the ender of the night-wanderers,

स्वलीलया जगत्त्रातुमाविर्भूतमजं विभुम्॥3॥

Svalīlayā jagat-trātum-āvirbhūtam-ajaṃ vibhum

who by his own play appeared in order to save the world, the unborn, the all-pervading:

verse 4

रामरक्षां पठेत्प्राज्ञः पापघ्नीं सर्वकामदाम्।

Rāma-rakṣāṃ paṭhet-prājñaḥ pāpa-ghnīṃ sarva-kāmadām

let the wise recite the Rama Raksha, destroyer of sin, granter of every wish.

शिरो मे राघवः पातु भालं दशरथात्मजः॥4॥

Śiro me Rāghavaḥ pātu bhālaṃ Daśarathātmajaḥ

May Raghava protect my head; may the son of Dasharatha protect my forehead.

verse 5

कौसल्येयो दृशौ पातु विश्वामित्रप्रियः श्रुती।

Kauśalyeyo dṛśau pātu Viśvāmitra-priyaḥ śrutī

May the son of Kausalya protect my eyes; may the beloved of Vishvamitra protect my ears.

घ्राणं पातु मखत्राता मुखं सौमित्रिवत्सलः॥5॥

Ghrāṇaṃ pātu makha-trātā mukhaṃ Saumitri-vatsalaḥ

May the protector of the sacrifice protect my nose; may the one who cherishes Sumitra's son protect my mouth.

verse 6

जिव्हां विद्यानिधिः पातु कण्ठं भरतवन्दितः।

Jihvāṃ vidyā-nidhiḥ pātu kaṇṭhaṃ Bharata-vanditaḥ

May the treasury of learning protect my tongue; may the one saluted by Bharata protect my throat.

स्कन्धौ दिव्यायुधः पातु भुजौ भग्नेशकार्मुकः॥6॥

Skandhau divyāyudhaḥ pātu bhujau bhagneśa-kārmukaḥ

May the bearer of divine weapons protect my shoulders; may the breaker of Shiva's bow protect my arms.

verse 7

करौ सीतापतिः पातु हृदयं जामदग्न्यजित्।

Karau Sītā-patiḥ pātu hṛdayaṃ Jāmadagnya-jit

May the husband of Sita protect my hands; may the conqueror of Jamadagni's son protect my heart.

मध्यं पातु खरध्वंसी नाभिं जाम्बवदाश्रयः॥7॥

Madhyaṃ pātu Khara-dhvaṃsī nābhiṃ Jāmbavad-āśrayaḥ

May the destroyer of Khara protect my middle; may the refuge of Jambavan protect my navel.

verse 8

सुग्रीवेशः कटी पातु सक्थिनी हनुमत्प्रभुः।

Sugrīveśaḥ kaṭī pātu sakthinī Hanumat-prabhuḥ

May the lord of Sugriva protect my hips; may the master of Hanuman protect my loins.

ऊरू रघूत्तमः पातु रक्षःकुलविनाशकृत्॥8॥

Ūrū Raghūttamaḥ pātu rakṣaḥ-kula-vināśa-kṛt

May the best of the Raghus, destroyer of the race of demons, protect my thighs.

verse 9

जानुनी सेतुकृत्पातु जङ्घे दशमुखान्तकः।

Jānunī setu-kṛt-pātu jaṅghe daśamukha-antakaḥ

May the builder of the bridge protect my knees; may the ender of the ten-faced one protect my shins.

पादौ बिभीषणश्रीदः पातु रामोSखिलं वपुः॥9॥

Pādau Bibhīṣaṇa-śrīdaḥ pātu Rāmo'khilaṃ vapuḥ

May the giver of fortune to Vibhishana protect my feet; may Rama protect my whole body.

verse 10

एतां रामबलोपेतां रक्षां यः सुकृती पठेत्।

Etāṃ Rāma-balo-petāṃ rakṣāṃ yaḥ sukṛtī paṭhet

Whoever, being of good deeds, recites this armour endowed with Rama's strength,

स चिरायुः सुखी पुत्री विजयी विनयी भवेत्॥10॥

Sa cirāyuḥ sukhī putrī vijayī vinayī bhavet

becomes long-lived, happy, blessed with children, victorious and humble.

verse 11

पाताल-भूतल-व्योम-चारिणश्छद्मचारिणः।

Pātāla-bhūtala-vyoma-cāriṇaś-chadma-cāriṇaḥ

Those who roam the netherworld, the earth and the sky, and those who move in disguise,

न द्रष्टुमपि शक्तास्ते रक्षितं रामनामभिः॥11॥

Na draṣṭum-api śaktāste rakṣitaṃ Rāma-nāmabhiḥ

are not able even to look upon one who is guarded by the names of Rama.

verse 12

रामेति रामभद्रेति रामचन्द्रेति वा स्मरन्।

Rāmeti Rāmabhadreti Rāmacandreti vā smaran

Remembering 'Rama', or 'Ramabhadra', or 'Ramachandra',

नरो न लिप्यते पापैः भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति॥12॥

Naro na lipyate pāpaiḥ bhuktiṃ muktiṃ ca vindati

a man is not stained by sins, and gains both enjoyment and liberation.

verse 13

जगज्जेत्रैकमन्त्रेण रामनाम्नाऽभिरक्षितम्।

Jagaj-jetrai-ka-mantreṇa Rāma-nāmnā'bhirakṣitam

Protected by the name of Rama, the one mantra that conquers the world,

यः कण्ठे धारयेत्तस्य करस्थाः सर्वसिद्धयः॥13॥

Yaḥ kaṇṭhe dhārayet-tasya karasthāḥ sarva-siddhayaḥ

whoever wears this at his throat: for him all attainments rest in the palm of his hand.

verse 14

वज्रपञ्जरनामेदं यो रामकवचं स्मरेत्।

Vajra-pañjara-nāmedaṃ yo Rāma-kavacaṃ smaret

Whoever calls to mind this armour of Rama, known as the Diamond Cage,

अव्याहताज्ञः सर्वत्र लभते जयमङ्गलम्॥14॥

Avyāhatājñaḥ sarvatra labhate jaya-maṅgalam

his command goes unopposed everywhere, and he obtains victory and good fortune.

verse 15

आदिष्टवान् यथा स्वप्ने रामरक्षामिमां हरः।

Ādiṣṭavān yathā svapne Rāma-rakṣām-imāṃ Haraḥ

Just as Hara instructed this Rama Raksha in a dream,

तथा लिखितवान् प्रातः प्रबुद्धो बुधकौशिकः॥15॥

Tathā likhitavān prātaḥ prabuddho Budhakauśikaḥ

so Budhakaushika, waking in the morning, wrote it down.

verse 16

आरामः कल्पवृक्षाणां विरामः सकलापदाम्।

Ārāmaḥ kalpa-vṛkṣāṇāṃ virāmaḥ sakala-āpadām

A grove of wish-fulfilling trees, the ending of every calamity,

अभिरामस्त्रिलोकानां रामः श्रीमान् स नः प्रभुः॥16॥

Abhirāmas-tri-lokānāṃ Rāmaḥ śrīmān sa naḥ prabhuḥ

the delight of the three worlds: that glorious Rama is our lord.

verse 17

तरुणौ रूपसम्पन्नौ सुकुमारौ महाबलौ।

Taruṇau rūpa-sampannau su-kumārau mahā-balau

The two are young, endowed with beauty, delicate of form yet of great strength,

पुण्डरीकविशालाक्षौ चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरौ॥17॥

Puṇḍarīka-viśālākṣau cīra-kṛṣṇājinām-barau

with eyes wide as white lotuses, clad in bark garments and black antelope skin,

verse 18

फलमूलशिनौ दान्तौ तापसौ ब्रह्मचारिणौ।

Phala-mūla-śinau dāntau tāpasau brahma-cāriṇau

eating fruits and roots, self-restrained, ascetics, living in continence,

पुत्रौ दशरथस्यैतौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ॥18॥

Putrau Daśarathasyaitau bhrātarau Rāma-Lakṣmaṇau

these two sons of Dasharatha, the brothers Rama and Lakshmana,

verse 19

शरण्यौ सर्वसत्वानां श्रेष्ठौ सर्वधनुष्मताम्।

Śaraṇyau sarva-satvānāṃ śreṣṭhau sarva-dhanuṣmatām

refuge of all beings, foremost among all who bear the bow,

रक्षःकुलनिहन्तारौ त्रायेतां नो रघूत्तमौ॥19॥

Rakṣaḥ-kula-nihantārau trāyetāṃ no Raghūttamau

slayers of the race of demons: may those two best of the Raghus protect us.

verse 20

आत्तसज्जधनुषा विषुस्पृशावक्षया शुगनिषङ्गसङ्गिनौ।

Ātta-sajja-dhanuṣā viṣu-spṛśāv-akṣayā śuga-niṣaṅga-saṅginau

With bows taken up and strung, fingers touching their arrows, inexhaustible quivers slung at their sides,

रक्षणाय मम रामलक्ष्मणावग्रतःपथि सदैव गच्छताम्॥20॥

Rakṣaṇāya mama Rāma-Lakṣmaṇāv-agrataḥ-pathi sadaiva gaccchatām

may Rama and Lakshmana ever walk ahead of me on the road, for my protection.

verse 21

संनद्धः कवची खड्गी चापबाणधरो युवा।

Saṃnaddhaḥ kavacī khaḍgī cāpa-bāṇa-dharo yuvā

Fully armed, clad in mail, sword at his side, bearing bow and arrows, youthful,

गच्छन् मनोरथोऽस्माकं रामः पातु सलक्ष्मणः॥21॥

Gacchan manoratho'smākaṃ Rāmaḥ pātu sa-Lakṣmaṇaḥ

walking before us as our heart's own desire: may Rama with Lakshmana protect us.

verse 22

रामो दाशरथिः शूरो लक्ष्मणानुचरो बली।

Rāmo Dāśarathiḥ śūro Lakṣmaṇānu-caro balī

Rama, son of Dasharatha, the brave, attended by Lakshmana, the strong,

काकुत्स्थः पुरुषः पूर्णः कौसल्येयो रघूत्तमः॥22॥

Kākutsthaḥ puruṣaḥ pūrṇaḥ Kauśalyeyo Raghūttamaḥ

Kakutstha, the complete Person, son of Kausalya, best of the Raghus,

verse 23

वेदान्तवेद्यो यज्ञेशः पुराणपुरुषोत्तमः।

Vedānta-vedyo yajñeśaḥ purāṇa-puruṣottamaḥ

knowable through Vedanta, lord of sacrifice, the ancient Supreme Person,

जानकीवल्लभः श्रीमान् अप्रमेयपराक्रमः॥23॥

Jānakī-vallabhaḥ śrīmān aprameya-parākramaḥ

beloved of Janaki, glorious, of immeasurable valour.

verse 24

इत्येतानि जपेन्नित्यं मद्भक्तः श्रद्धयान्वितः।

Ityetāni japen-nityaṃ mad-bhaktaḥ śraddhayānvitaḥ

Whoever, being my devotee and filled with faith, recites these names daily,

अश्वमेधाधिकं पुण्यं सम्प्राप्नोति न संशयः॥24॥

Aśvamedha-adhikaṃ puṇyaṃ samprāpnoti na saṃśayaḥ

obtains merit greater than the Ashvamedha sacrifice: of this there is no doubt.

verse 25

रामं दूर्वादलश्यामं पद्माक्षं पीतवाससम्।

Rāmaṃ dūrvādala-śyāmaṃ padmākṣaṃ pīta-vāsasam

Those who praise with divine names Rama, dark as a blade of durva grass, lotus-eyed, clad in yellow,

स्तुवन्ति नामभिर्दिव्यैर्न ते संसारिणो नरः॥25॥

Stuvanti nāmabhir-divyair-na te saṃsāriṇo naraḥ

those people are no longer bound to the round of birth and death.

verse 26

रामं लक्ष्मण-पूर्वजं रघुवरं सीतापतिं सुन्दरं काकुत्स्थं करुणार्णवं गुणनिधिं विप्रप्रियं धार्मिकम्।

Rāmaṃ Lakṣmaṇa-pūrvajaṃ Raghu-varaṃ Sītā-patiṃ sundaraṃ Kākutsthaṃ karuṇārṇavaṃ guṇa-nidhiṃ vipra-priyaṃ dhārmikam

Rama, elder brother of Lakshmana, best of the Raghus, husband of Sita, beautiful, Kakutstha, an ocean of compassion, a treasury of virtues, dear to the learned, righteous,

राजेन्द्रं सत्यसन्धं दशरथ-तनयं श्यामलं शान्तमूर्तिं वन्दे लोकाभिरामं रघुकुलतिलकं राघवं रावणारिम्॥26॥

Rājendraṃ satya-sandhaṃ Daśaratha-tanayaṃ śyāmalaṃ śānta-mūrtiṃ vande lokābhirāmaṃ Raghu-kula-tilakaṃ Rāghavaṃ Rāvaṇārim

king among kings, true to his word, son of Dasharatha, dark-hued, of serene form: I bow to him, the delight of the worlds, the ornament of the Raghu line, Raghava, the foe of Ravana.

verse 27

रामाय रामभद्राय रामचन्द्राय वेधसे।

Rāmāya Rāma-bhadrāya Rāma-candrāya vedhase

To Rama, to Ramabhadra, to Ramachandra the creator,

रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः॥27॥

Raghunāthāya nāthāya Sītāyāḥ pataye namaḥ

to Raghunatha, to the lord, to the husband of Sita: salutations.

verse 28

श्रीराम राम रघुनन्दन राम राम। श्रीराम राम भरताग्रज राम राम।

Śrī-Rāma Rāma Raghunandana Rāma Rāma. Śrī-Rāma Rāma Bharatāgraja Rāma Rāma

Shri Rama, Rama, delight of the Raghus, Rama, Rama. Shri Rama, Rama, elder brother of Bharata, Rama, Rama.

श्रीराम राम रणकर्कश राम राम। श्रीराम राम शरणं भव राम राम॥28॥

Śrī-Rāma Rāma Raṇa-karkaśa Rāma Rāma. Śrī-Rāma Rāma śaraṇaṃ bhava Rāma Rāma

Shri Rama, Rama, unrelenting in battle, Rama, Rama. Shri Rama, Rama, be my refuge, Rama, Rama.

verse 29

श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ मनसा स्मरामि। श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ वचसा गृणामि।

Śrī-Rāmacandra-caraṇau manasā smārami. Śrī-Rāmacandra-caraṇau vacasā gṛṇāmi

The feet of Shri Ramachandra I remember with my mind. The feet of Shri Ramachandra I praise with my speech.

श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शिरसा नमामि। श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये॥29॥

Śrī-Rāmacandra-caraṇau śirasā namāmi. Śrī-Rāmacandra-caraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye

The feet of Shri Ramachandra I bow to with my head. The feet of Shri Ramachandra I take as my refuge.

verse 30

माता रामो मत्पिता रामचन्द्रः। स्वामी रामो मत्सखा रामचन्द्रः।

Mātā Rāmo mat-pitā Rāmacandraḥ. Svāmī Rāmo mat-sakhā Rāmacandraḥ

Rama is my mother, Ramachandra my father. Rama is my master, Ramachandra my friend.

सर्वस्वं मे रामचन्द्रो दयालुर् नान्यं जाने नैव जाने न जाने॥30॥

Sarvasvaṃ me Rāmacandro dayālur nānyaṃ jāne naiva jāne na jāne

The merciful Ramachandra is my all. I know no other, I know no other at all, I know no other.

verse 31

दक्षिणे लक्ष्मणो यस्य वामे च जनकात्मजा।

Dakṣiṇe Lakṣmaṇo yasya vāme ca Janakātmajā

He on whose right stands Lakshmana and on whose left the daughter of Janaka,

पुरतो मारुतिर्यस्य तं वन्दे रघुनन्दनम्॥31॥

Purato Mārutir-yasya taṃ vande Raghunandanam

and before whom stands Maruti: to that delight of the Raghus I bow.

verse 32

लोकाभिरामं रणरङ्गधीरं राजीवनेत्रं रघुवंशनाथम्।

Lokābhirāmaṃ raṇa-raṅga-dhīraṃ rājīva-netraṃ Raghu-vaṃśa-nātham

The delight of the worlds, steadfast on the field of battle, lotus-eyed, lord of the Raghu line,

कारुण्यरूपं करुणाकरन्तं श्रीरामचन्द्रं शरणं प्रपद्ये॥32॥

Kāruṇya-rūpaṃ karuṇākaran-taṃ Śrī-Rāmacandraṃ śaraṇaṃ prapadye

compassion itself in form, the doer of mercy: in Shri Ramachandra I take refuge.

verse 33

मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम्।

Manojavañ-māruta-tulya-vegaṃ jitendriyaṃ buddhimatāṃ variṣṭham

Swift as thought, of speed equal to the wind, master of his senses, foremost among the wise,

वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये॥33॥

Vātātmajaṃ vānara-yūtha-mukhyaṃ Śrī-Rāma-dūtaṃ śaraṇaṃ prapadye

son of the wind, chief of the monkey host: in the messenger of Shri Rama I take refuge.

verse 34

कूजन्तं राम-रामेति मधुरं मधुराक्षरम्।

Kūjantaṃ Rāma-Rāmeti madhuraṃ madhurākṣaram

Singing 'Rama, Rama' sweetly, in syllables that are sweetness itself,

आरुह्य कविताशाखां वन्दे वाल्मीकिकोकिलम्॥34॥

Āruhya kavitā-śākhāṃ vande Vālmīki-kokilam

perched upon the branch of poetry: I bow to Valmiki, the cuckoo.

verse 35

आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम्।

Āpadām-apahartāraṃ dātāraṃ sarva-sampadām

The remover of calamities, the giver of every prosperity,

लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम्॥35॥

Lokābhirāmaṃ Śrī-Rāmaṃ bhūyo bhūyo namāmy-aham

the delight of the worlds, Shri Rama: to him I bow again and again.

verse 36

भर्जनं भवबीजानां अर्जनं सुखसम्पदाम्।

Bharjanaṃ bhava-bījānāṃ arjanaṃ sukha-sampadām

The scorching away of the seeds of rebirth, the winning of happiness and wealth,

तर्जनं यमदूतानां रामरामेति गर्जनम्॥36॥

Tarjanaṃ yama-dūtānāṃ Rāma-Rāmeti garjanam

the terror of Yama's messengers: such is the roar of 'Rama, Rama'.

verse 37

रामो राजमणिः सदा विजयते रामं रमेशं भजे। रामेणाभिहता निशाचरचमू रामाय तस्मै नमः।

Rāmo rāja-maṇiḥ sadā vijayate Rāmaṃ Rameśaṃ bhaje. Rāmeṇābhihatā niśācara-camū Rāmāya tasmai namaḥ

Rama, the jewel among kings, is ever victorious; I worship Rama, the lord of Rama (Lakshmi). By Rama the army of night-wanderers was struck down; to that Rama, salutations.

रामान्नास्ति परायणं परतरं रामस्य दासोऽस्म्यहम्। रामे चित्तलयः सदा भवतु मे भो राम मामुद्धर॥37॥

Rāmān-nāsti parāyaṇaṃ parataraṃ Rāmasya dāso'smy-aham. Rāme citta-layaḥ sadā bhavatu me bho Rāma māmuddha

There is no higher refuge than Rama; I am Rama's servant. May my mind be ever absorbed in Rama. O Rama, lift me up.

verse 38

राम रामेति रामेति रमे रामे मनोरमे।

Rāma Rāmeti Rāmeti rame Rāme manorame

'Rama, Rama', thus, 'Rama', thus: I delight in Rama, the delightful one.

सहस्रनाम तत्तुल्यं रामनाम वरानने॥38॥

Sahasra-nāma tat-tulyaṃ Rāma-nāma varānane

O fair-faced one, the name of Rama is equal to the thousand names.
