verse 1

हिरण्यवर्णां हरिणीं सुवर्णरजतस्रजाम्।

Hiraṇya-varṇāṃ hariṇīṃ suvarṇa-rajata-srajām

O Jataveda (Agni, knower of all births), bring to me the golden-hued one, radiant as a doe, garlanded with gold and silver,

चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह॥1॥

Candrāṃ hiraṇmayīṃ lakṣmīṃ jātavedo ma āvaha

the moon-like, golden Lakshmi -- O Jataveda, bring her to me.

verse 2

तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम्।

Tāṃ ma āvaha jātavedo lakṣmīm-anapagāminīm

Bring to me, O Jataveda, that Lakshmi who never departs from her devotee,

यस्यां हिरण्यं विन्देयं गामश्वं पुरुषानहम्॥2॥

Yasyāṃ hiraṇyaṃ vindeyaṃ gām-aśvaṃ puruṣān-aham

through whom I may gain gold, cattle, horses, and kinsmen.

verse 3

अश्वपूर्वां रथमध्यां हस्तिनादप्रबोधिनीम्।

Aśva-pūrvāṃ ratha-madhyāṃ hastināda-prabodhiniim

Preceded by horses, enthroned amid chariots, awakened by the trumpeting of elephants,

श्रियं देवीमुपह्वये श्रीर्मा देवी जुषताम्॥3॥

Śriyaṃ devīm-upahvaye śrīrmā devī juṣatām

I invoke the goddess Shri; may the goddess Shri favor and delight in me.

verse 4

कां सोस्मितां हिरण्यप्राकारामार्द्रां ज्वलन्तीं तृप्तां तर्पयन्तीम्।

Kāṃ so-smitāṃ hiraṇya-prākārām-ārdrāṃ jvalantīṃ tṛptāṃ tarpayantīm

The radiant one, gently smiling, encircled by a golden rampart, compassionate and blazing with splendour, satisfied and granting satisfaction to others,

पद्मे स्थितां पद्मवर्णां तामिहोपह्वये श्रियम्॥4॥

Padme sthitāṃ padma-varṇāṃ tām-iho-pahvaye śriyam

standing upon the lotus, lotus-hued -- I invoke that Shri here.

verse 5

चन्द्रां प्रभासां यशसा ज्वलन्तीं श्रियं लोके देवजुष्टामुदाराम्।

Candrāṃ prabhāsāṃ yaśasā jvalantīṃ śriyaṃ loke deva-juṣṭām-udārām

Moon-like and radiant, blazing with fame, cherished by the gods, generous Shri in this world,

तां पद्मिनीमीं शरणमहं प्रपद्येऽलक्ष्मीर्मे नश्यतां त्वां वृणे॥5॥

Tāṃ padminīm-īṃ śaraṇam-ahaṃ prapadye alakṣmīr-me naśyatāṃ tvāṃ vṛṇe

I take refuge in you, the lotus goddess; may misfortune vanish from me -- I choose you.

verse 6

आदित्यवर्णे तपसोऽधिजातो वनस्पतिस्तव वृक्षोऽथ बिल्वः।

Āditya-varṇe tapaso'dhijāto vanaspatis-tava vṛkṣo'tha bilvaḥ

O you of sun-like hue, born from austerity; the bilva is your tree among the trees of the forest;

तस्य फलानि तपसानुदन्तु मायान्तरायाश्च बाह्या अलक्ष्मीः॥6॥

Tasya phalāni tapasā-nudantu māyā-antarāyāśca bāhyā alakṣmīḥ

may its fruits, by that austerity, remove misfortune, both hidden within and encountered without.

verse 7

उपैतु मां देवसखः कीर्तिश्च मणिना सह।

Upaitu māṃ deva-sakhaḥ kīrtiśca maṇinā saha

May the friend of the gods come to me, together with Fame and the jewel,

प्रादुर्भूतोऽस्मि राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन् कीर्तिमृद्धिं ददातु मे॥7॥

Prādurbhūto'smi rāṣṭre'smin kīrtim-ṛddhiṃ dadātu me

for I have arisen in this land -- may it grant me fame and prosperity.

verse 8

क्षुत्पिपासामलां ज्येष्ठामलक्ष्मीं नाशयाम्यहम्।

Kṣut-pipāsā-malāṃ jyeṣṭhām-alakṣmīṃ nāśayāmy-aham

I banish the elder Alakshmi, the very impurity of hunger and thirst;

अभूतिमसमृद्धिं च सर्वां निर्णुद मे गृहात्॥8॥

Abhūtim-asamṛddhiṃ ca sarvāṃ nirṇuda me gṛhāt

drive out from my home every form of destitution and want.

verse 9

गन्धद्वारां दुराधर्षां नित्यपुष्टां करीषिणीम्।

Gandha-dvārāṃ durādharṣāṃ nitya-puṣṭāṃ karīṣiṇīm

She whose gateway is fragrance, unassailable, ever-flourishing, abundant with the wealth of the fields,

ईश्वरींग् सर्वभूतानां तामिहोपह्वये श्रियम्॥9॥

Īśvarīṃ sarva-bhūtānāṃ tām-iho-pahvaye śriyam

the sovereign ruler of all beings -- I invoke that Shri here.

verse 10

मनसः काममाकूतिं वाचः सत्यमशीमहि।

Manasaḥ kāmam-ākūtiṃ vācaḥ satyam-aśīmahi

May we obtain the mind's desire and intention, and the truth of speech;

पशूनां रूपमन्नस्य मयि श्रीः श्रयतां यशः॥10॥

Paśūnāṃ rūpam-annasya mayi śrīḥ śrayatāṃ yaśaḥ

may Shri, along with fame, take up residence in me as the very form of cattle and grain.

verse 11

कर्दमेन प्रजाभूता मयि सम्भव कर्दम।

Kardamena prajā-bhūtā mayi sambhava Kardama

O Kardama, through whom offspring came to be, arise within me, O Kardama;

श्रियं वासय मे कुले मातरं पद्ममालिनीम्॥11॥

Śriyaṃ vāsaya me kule mātaraṃ padma-mālinīm

cause Shri, the lotus-garlanded mother, to dwell in my lineage.

verse 12

आपः सृजन्तु स्निग्धानि चिक्लीत वस मे गृहे।

Āpaḥ sṛjantu snigdhāni Ciklīta vasa me gṛhe

May the waters bring forth abundance and grace; O Chiklita, come dwell in my house;

नि च देवीं मातरं श्रियं वासय मे कुले॥12॥

Ni ca devīṃ mātaraṃ śriyaṃ vāsaya me kule

and cause the goddess mother Shri to abide in my lineage.

verse 13

आर्द्रां पुष्करिणीं पुष्टिं पिङ्गलां पद्ममालिनीम्।

Ārdrāṃ puṣkariṇīṃ puṣṭiṃ piṅgalāṃ padma-mālinīm

Compassionate, dwelling among lotuses, nourishing, tawny-golden, garlanded with lotus blooms,

चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह॥13॥

Candrāṃ hiraṇmayīṃ lakṣmīṃ jātavedo ma āvaha

moon-like and golden -- O Jataveda, bring that Lakshmi to me.

verse 14

आर्द्रां यः करिणीं यष्टिं सुवर्णां हेममालिनीम्।

Ārdrāṃ yaḥ kariṇīṃ yaṣṭiṃ suvarṇāṃ hema-mālinīm

Compassionate, accompanied by elephants, slender and golden, garlanded with gold,

सूर्यां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह॥14॥

Sūryāṃ hiraṇmayīṃ lakṣmīṃ jātavedo ma āvaha

sun-like and golden -- O Jataveda, bring that Lakshmi to me.

verse 15

तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम्।

Tāṃ ma āvaha jātavedo lakṣmīm-anapagāminīm

Bring to me, O Jataveda, that Lakshmi who never departs from her devotee,

यस्यां हिरण्यं प्रभूतं गावो दास्योऽश्वान् विन्देयं पुरुषानहम्॥15॥

Yasyāṃ hiraṇyaṃ prabhūtaṃ gāvo dāsyo'śvān vindeyaṃ puruṣān-aham

through whom I may obtain abundant gold, cattle, servants, horses, and kinsmen.

phalashruti

यः शुचिः प्रयतो भूत्वा जुहुयादाज्यमन्वहम्।

Yaḥ śuciḥ prayato bhūtvā juhuyād-ājyam-anvaham

One who, becoming pure and self-disciplined, offers ghee in oblation every day,

सूक्तं पञ्चदशर्चं च श्रीकामः सततं जपेत्॥16॥

Sūktaṃ pañcadaśarcaṃ ca śrīkāmaḥ satataṃ japet

should always recite this fifteen-verse sukta, desiring Shri.

verse 17

पद्मानने पद्म ऊरू पद्माक्षी पद्मसंभवे।

Padmānane padma ūrū padmākṣī padma-saṃbhave

O lotus-faced, lotus-thighed, lotus-eyed one, born of the lotus,

त्वं मां भजस्व पद्माक्षी येन सौख्यं लभाम्यहम्॥17॥

Tvaṃ māṃ bhajasva padmākṣī yena saukhyaṃ labhāmy-aham

lotus-eyed one, favour me, so that I may attain happiness.

verse 18

अश्वदायि गोदायि धनदायि महाधने।

Aśva-dāyi go-dāyi dhana-dāyi mahā-dhane

Giver of horses, giver of cattle, giver of wealth, O greatly wealthy one,

धनं मे जुषतां देवि सर्वकामांश्च देहि मे॥18॥

Dhanaṃ me juṣatāṃ devi sarva-kāmāṃśca dehi me

may wealth delight in me, O goddess, and grant me all my desires.

verse 19

पुत्रपौत्र धनं धान्यं हस्त्यश्वादिगवे रथम्।

Putra-pautra dhanaṃ dhānyaṃ hasty-aśvādigave ratham

Sons and grandsons, wealth and grain, elephants, horses, cattle, and chariots,

प्रजानां भवसि माता आयुष्मन्तं करोतु माम्॥19॥

Prajānāṃ bhavasi mātā āyuṣmantaṃ karotu mām

You are the mother of all creatures; may You grant me long life.

verse 20

धनमग्निर्धनं वायुर्धनं सूर्यो धनं वसुः।

Dhanam-agnir-dhanaṃ vāyur-dhanaṃ sūryo dhanaṃ vasuḥ

Agni is wealth, Vayu is wealth, Surya is wealth, Vasu is wealth,

धनमिन्द्रो बृहस्पतिर्वरुणं धनमश्नुते॥20॥

Dhanam-indro bṛhaspatir-varuṇaṃ dhanam-aśnute

Indra, Brihaspati, and Varuna partake of wealth.

verse 21

वैनतेय सोमं पिब सोमं पिबतु वृत्रहा।

Vainateya somaṃ piba somaṃ pibatu vṛtrahā

O Vainateya, drink the soma; may Vrtrahan (Indra) drink the soma,

सोमं धनस्य सोमिनो मह्यं ददातु सोमिनः॥21॥

Somaṃ dhanasya somino mahyaṃ dadātu sohinaḥ

may the soma of wealth, belonging to the soma-lord, be given to me.

verse 22

न क्रोधो न च मात्सर्य न लोभो नाशुभा मतिः।

Na krodho na ca mātsarya na lobho nāśubhā matiḥ

Anger, envy, greed, and impure thought do not arise

भवन्ति कृतपुण्यानां भक्तानां श्रीसूक्तं जपेत्सदा॥22॥

Bhavanti kṛta-puṇyānāṃ bhaktānāṃ śrī-sūktaṃ japet-sadā

in the devotees of accumulated merit; let this Shri Sukta always be recited.

verse 23

वर्षन्तु ते विभावरि दिवो अभ्रस्य विद्युतः।

Varṣantu te vibhāvari divo abhrasya vidyutaḥ

May the lightnings of the sky's clouds rain down for You, O radiant one,

रोहन्तु सर्वबीजान्यव ब्रह्म द्विषो जहि॥23॥

Rohantu sarva-bījāny-ava brahma dviṣo jahi

may all seeds sprout; destroy those who hate sacred wisdom.

verse 24

पद्मप्रिये पद्मिनि पद्महस्ते पद्मालये पद्मदलायताक्षि।

Padma-priye padmini padma-haste padmālaye padma-dalāyatākṣi

O lover of the lotus, lotus-dweller, lotus-handed, abiding in the lotus, with eyes long as lotus petals,

विश्वप्रिये विष्णु मनोऽनुकूले त्वत्पादपद्मं मयि सन्निधत्स्व॥24॥

Viśva-priye viṣṇu-mano'nukūle tvat-pāda-padmaṃ mayi sannidhatsva

beloved of the universe, pleasing to Vishnu's heart, place Your lotus feet near me.

verse 25

या सा पद्मासनस्था विपुलकटितटी पद्मपत्रायताक्षी।

Yā sā padmāsana-sthā vipula-kaṭi-taṭī padma-patrāyatākṣī

She who is seated on the lotus throne, of broad hips, with eyes long as lotus petals,

गम्भीरा वर्तनाभिः स्तनभर नमिता शुभ्र वस्त्रोत्तरीया॥25॥

Gambhīrā varta-nābhiḥ stana-bhara namitā śubhra vastrottarīyā

deep-naveled, gently bowed by the weight of her bosom, clothed in a pure white upper garment,

verse 26

लक्ष्मीर्दिव्यैर्गजेन्द्रैर्मणिगणखचितैस्स्नापिता हेमकुम्भैः।

Lakṣmīr-divyair-gajendrair-maṇi-gaṇa-khacitaiḥ-snāpitā hema-kumbhaiḥ

Lakshmi, bathed by divine elephants from golden pitchers studded with clusters of gems,

नित्यं सा पद्महस्ता मम वसतु गृहे सर्वमाङ्गल्ययुक्ता॥26॥

Nityaṃ sā padma-hastā mama vasatu gṛhe sarva-māṅgalya-yuktā

may she, lotus-handed and endowed with all auspiciousness, dwell forever in my home.

verse 27

लक्ष्मीं क्षीरसमुद्र राजतनयां श्रीरङ्गधामेश्वरीम्।

Lakṣmīṃ kṣīra-samudra rāja-tanayāṃ śrīraṅga-dhāmeśvarīm

Lakshmi, daughter of the ocean of milk, mistress of the abode of Shri Ranga,

दासीभूतसमस्त देव वनितां लोकैक दीपांकुराम्॥27॥

Dāsī-bhūta-samasta deva vanitāṃ lokaikaī dīpāṃkurām

before whom all the wives of the gods become as handmaidens, the one flame lighting all the worlds.

verse 28

श्रीमन्मन्दकटाक्षलब्ध विभव ब्रह्मेन्द्रगङ्गाधराम्।

Śrīman-manda-kaṭākṣa-labdha-vibhava brahma-indra-gaṅgādharām

By whose gentle sidelong glance Brahma, Indra, and the bearer of the Ganga (Shiva) obtain their glory,

त्वां त्रैलोक्य कुटुम्बिनीं सरसिजां वन्दे मुकुन्दप्रियाम्॥28॥

Tvāṃ trai-lokya kuṭumba-nīṃ sarasijāṃ vande mukunda-priyām

I bow to You, lotus-born mistress of the three worlds, beloved of Mukunda.

verse 29

सिद्धलक्ष्मीर्मोक्षलक्ष्मीर्जयलक्ष्मीस्सरस्वती।

Siddha-lakṣmīr-mokṣa-lakṣmīr-jaya-lakṣmīs-sarasvatī

Lakshmi of accomplishment, Lakshmi of liberation, Lakshmi of victory, and Sarasvati,

श्रीलक्ष्मीर्वरलक्ष्मीश्च प्रसन्ना मम सर्वदा॥29॥

Śrī-lakṣmīr-vara-lakṣmīśca prasannā mama sarvadā

Lakshmi of glory and Lakshmi of blessings, may they all always be gracious to me.

verse 30

वरांकुशौ पाशमभीतिमुद्रां करैर्वहन्तीं कमलासनस्थाम्।

Varāṃkuśau pāśam-abhīti-mudrāṃ karair-vahantīṃ kamala-āsana-sthām

Bearing in Her hands the boon-granting gesture, the goad, the noose, and the gesture of fearlessness, seated on the lotus throne,

बालार्क कोटि प्रतिभां त्रिणेत्रां भजेहमाद्यां जगदीश्वरीं त्वाम्॥30॥

Bālārka koṭi pratibhāṃ triṇetrāṃ bhaje'ham-ādyāṃ jagadīśvarīṃ tvām

radiant as ten million rising suns, three-eyed, I worship You, the primordial mistress of the universe.

verse 31

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थ साधिके।

Sarva-maṅgala-māṅgalye śive sarvārtha-sādhike

O auspiciousness of all auspicious things, benevolent one, accomplisher of all aims,

शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥31॥

Śaraṇye tryambake devi nārāyaṇi namo'stu te

refuge of all, three-eyed goddess, Narayani, salutations to You.

verse 32

सरसिजनिलये सरोजहस्ते धवलतरांशुक गन्धमाल्यशोभे।

Sarasija-nilaye saroja-haste dhavalata-rāṃśuka gandha-mālya-śobhe

O dweller in the lotus, lotus-handed one, resplendent in pure white garments, fragrance, and garlands,

भगवति हरिवल्लभे मनोज्ञे त्रिभुवनभूतिकरि प्रसीद मह्यम्॥32॥

Bhagavati hari-vallabhe manojñe tri-bhuvana-bhūti-kari prasīda mahyam

blessed one, beloved of Hari, delightful one, bestower of prosperity on the three worlds, be gracious to me.

verse 33

विष्णुपत्नीं क्षमां देवीं माधवीं माधवप्रियाम्।

Viṣṇu-patnīṃ kṣamāṃ devīṃ mādhavīṃ mādhava-priyām

The wife of Vishnu, goddess of patience, Madhavi, beloved of Madhava,

विष्णोः प्रियसखीं देवीं नमाम्यच्युतवल्लभाम्॥33॥

Viṣṇoḥ priya-sakhīṃ devīṃ namāmy-acyuta-vallabhām

the dear companion of Vishnu, I bow to the goddess, beloved of Achyuta.

verse 34

महालक्ष्मी च विद्महे विष्णुपत्नी च धीमहि।

Mahālakṣmī ca vidmahe viṣṇu-patnī ca dhīmahi

We know Mahalakshmi, we meditate on the wife of Vishnu,

तन्नो लक्ष्मीः प्रचोदयात्॥34॥

Tanno lakṣmīḥ pracodayāt

may that Lakshmi inspire and guide us.

verse 35

श्रीवर्चस्यमायुष्यमारोग्यमाविधात् पवमानं महियते।

Śrī-varcasyam-āyuṣyam-ārogyam-āvidhāt pavamānaṃ mahīyate

May the purifying one grant radiance, long life, and health, and be glorified,

धनं धान्यं पशुं बहुपुत्रलाभं शतसंवत्सरं दीर्घमायुः॥35॥

Dhanaṃ dhānyaṃ paśuṃ bahu-putra-lābhaṃ śata-saṃvatsaraṃ dīrgham-āyuḥ

wealth, grain, cattle, the gain of many sons, and a long life of a hundred years.

verse 36

ऋणरोगादिदारिद्र्यपापक्षुदपमृत्यवः।

Ṛṇa-rogādi-dāridrya-pāpa-kṣud-apamṛtyavaḥ

Debt, disease, poverty, sin, hunger, and untimely death,

भयशोकमनस्तापा नश्यन्तु मम सर्वदा॥36॥

Bhaya-śoka-manas-tāpā naśyantu mama sarvadā

fear, grief, and mental anguish, may they all forever perish for me.

verse 37

य एवं वेद। ॐ महादेव्यै च विद्महे विष्णुपत्नी च धीमहि।

Ya evaṃ veda. Oṃ mahā-devyai ca vidmahe viṣṇu-patnī ca dhīmahi

Thus he who knows this attains prosperity. Om, we know the great goddess, we meditate on the wife of Vishnu,

तन्नो लक्ष्मीः प्रचोदयात् ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥37॥

Tanno lakṣmīḥ pracodayāt. Oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ

may that Lakshmi inspire and guide us. Om, peace, peace, peace.
